ANOTW: A Walking History of Toronto Music Podcast + Map, Episode 3: Urban Villages, Pt. II - Kensington Market & Little Italy

The third episode of the Any Night of the Week podcast via the Toronto International Festival of Authors is now streaming! This installment wraps up a two-parter covering "Urban Villages" - today taking you on a walking tour through Kensington Market and Little Italy. Stream via the TIFA site or wherever you find your podcasts.

Here’s what to expect: “Urban villages are walkable, mixed-use, pedestrian-friendly neighbourhoods that significantly improve the quality of life in big cities - and they’re a big part of Toronto’s unique character. They’ve also played a big role in the evolution of our music scene. This episode takes us on a trek through five interconnected such villages and the hyper-local music scenes that defined them: Folk and psych-rock in ‘60s Yorkville; experimental arts and alt-rock in U of T and The Annex; blues and garage-rock in Chinatown/Spadina; all-ages hardcore in Kensington Market; indie and electronic in Little Italy - and including visits to iconic, long-running music venues like Lee’s Palace and the El Mocambo.”

And kindly feast yr eyes upon the second in this series of maps covering the geography of Toronto music venues past and present is up now - in conjunction with episodes 2 and 3 of the TIFA podcast! Thanks again to carto-artist (cartist?) Daniel Rots…
